Community Guidelines

Global Ethos
  1. Fascists, fuck off
Being alternative is political in nature. There are no nazi punks, conservative emos, or republican scene queens. By participating in our community, you understand belief structures which marginalize and harm others are contradictory to our core ethics and will not be tolerated.
  2. Respect is the word
Whether you wish to debate, educate a fellow community member, or simply share your opinions, you should do so respectfully. Your fellow members are your equals, treat them with respect.
  3. Honesty is our policy
Honesty and integrity are cornerstones of any community. Please be honest with yourself and our community when participating.
  4. Judgement free zone
ALTroCITY is a judgement free zone. People should feel free to come as they are without the fear of judgement or rejection from others. This sentiment echos in how we run our community; please accept people for what they have to offer and be understanding of their limitations.
  5. No proselytizing
As long as you're not hurting anybody else, you have the right to believe whatever you want with regards to spirituality and religion and many of us are happy to hear about experiences different from our own, but actively attempting to proselytize or convert others is not okay.
  6. No datamining
Do not, via manual or automated means, collect or process data data including but not limited to: forum posts, blog entries, articles, media, chat logs, or other user-created content for the purposes of aggregating, mirroring, re-publishing, or storing off-site. You are also forbidden to reproduce content found in secure sections of the site (protected by username & password) without permission from the content's author. DO NOT TRAIN AI USING OUR MATERIALS!
  7. Can the spam
We don't really want any unsolicited advertising or the repeated posting of nonsense ("flooding") here.
The Forums
  1. Read the stickes
Please read all of the sticky threads within a given forum before posting in it; some sections have their own unique rules.
  2. Title properly
When creating a thread, please use a meaningful title that accurately depicts what your thread is about. Your thread's message should also be meaningful and descriptive; it sets the tone for the conversation to follow.
  3. Search before you post
Before posting a thread, please search the forums to see if somebody else has already submitted a thread regarding the topic you wish to discuss. If a thread exists, consider posting in it instead of starting a new one. It's always better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one!
  4. Stay on topic
Make sure you post threads in the most appropriate forum. When posting a reply, please ensure it actually contributes to the topic being discussed. You should stay on topic, and you should avoid useless one-word or non-contributing replies
  5. Don't be rude
Please do not use all caps, multiple exclamation marks, or excessive formatting (bold, italics, colors, etc.) in your posts. It's considered rude and makes them hard to read.
  6. Don't double-post or cross-post
Double-posting and Cross-posting unfairly increases post counts and rewards; don't do it! Double-posting is the act of posting two messages back-to-back. This can take the form of submitting two replies to a single thread or submitting a reply to a thread you started before anybody else has replied. Cross-posting is the act of posting the same thread in different forums on the site.
User Profiles
  1. Maintain a valid email address
In order to use ALTroCITY, you must maintain a valid email address on your profile. A valid email address is an email address from a non-disposable email provider that can accept email from us. If emails sent to you bounce or it is determined you are using a disposable provider, you will be required to update your email address to continue using the site.
  2. One profile per person
Please only create one profile per person; we value authenticity.
  3. Profiles should represent an authentic person
Profiles on ALTroCITY should represent a real user. Joke and parody profiles, impersonation of others, or similar conduct is prohibited.
Library
  1. Quality over quantity
ALTroCITY's library accepts high-quality informational writings about the subcultures we serve and their histories. We expect writings to be original, descriptive, and to use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Writings which do not meet our quality guidelines will be rejected.
  2. Credit your sources
If external sources are used in your article, you are required to cite them. ALTroCITY does not have a preferred citation style, but credit must be given where it is due.
  3. Do your research
Articles should be honest and authentic to the best of your ability. If it is later found information in an article is inauthentic or incorrect, the article may be removed.
Ratings & Reactions
  1. Rate content, not people
You have probably noticed that the reaction system is available for various content on ALTroCITY, but not for user profiles. This is intentional. The purpose of our reaction system is to react to, and essentially rate, the quality of content available on ALTroCITY. It is not intended to be used to harass other users, or negative react people you disagree with.
  2. Don't solicit reactions
Don't ask for people to "like", "love", or otherwise up-vote or down-vote your post for any reason. Do not use the rating system as a polling system, we have an actual poll feature for that.
  3. Retaliation is not tolerated
If you've been given a rating you disagree with on a particular piece of content you posted, do not act in an abusive matter to the person who gave it to you. Instead, contact a staff member if it violates our Terms & Rules or Community Guidelines.
Blogs
  1. Use good judgement
Your blog is your personal space, but good judgement on what to post should be exercised. If it's something that violates our global guidelines or otherwise shouldn't be put out on the internet, it's probably better not to post it!
  2. Don't subpost
You shouldn't blog negative things about your fellow ALTroCITY users for obvious reasons.
  3. Personal use only
Your blog is not a place to spam or sell out to corporations for advertising.
Media Center
  1. Keep all media safe for work
All media submitted to the website must be relatively "safe for work". While some strong language and violent themes are allowed, media submissions should be free of overtly gory or sexual undertones.
  2. Respect people's rights
Do it yourself! Content uploaded to the media center should be your own work or be used with explicit permission from the rights holder only.
  3. No h8
Content which displays imagery, language, or rhetoric associated with hate groups is forbidden.
Chat & Messaging
  1. Don't flood or spam
Flooding is the act of repeating the same message over and over, or posting multiple messages within rapid succession. Spamming is the act of commercial advertising. Don't do either of them please.
  2. Don't monopolize the conversation
When in channels or chat rooms, please try to contribute to the discussion at hand. It isn't just about you, it's about all involved. 1:1 side conversations should be taken to whispers or PCs.
  3. Don't annoy others
Don’t send whispers, direct messages or private messages without permission, avoid unneeded pinging, if you and another user are discussing something an entire channel isn’t interested in, consider moving to direct messages, etc.
